NHL Star Malone Reportedly “Shocked” Over Cocaine Find

Ryan Malone, NHL forward, was arrested in April for the possession of cocaine and DUI.  A police report obtained by the Tampa Bay Times recently reveals that Malone told authorities that he was “shocked” and “baffled” as to how the cocaine got into the pockets of his jeans which he had been wearing for three days running.

Officer Andrew Visser wrote in his report that the former Tampa Bay Lightening Player seemed “shocked” when the 1.3 g of cocaine was taken from his jeans pocket.

I asked where it came from,” wrote Visser. “And he said he was just shocked.”

Following his arrest, Malon was bought out of his contract several months ago and he is now a free agent.  He was stopped by police when he hit a curb with his car and a subsequent search of his car and body revealed the stash of cocaine on Malone who was found to be driving under the influence.

At the time, Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said: “We are aware of the situation concerning Ryan Malone… Ryan will not travel with the team to Washington (Saturday), but beyond that we cannot comment further at this time.”

On August 19th, Malone pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and agreed to a pretrial diversion program on a drug charge.

This week, the 34 year old’s agent, Mike Liut said that a number of ice hockey teams had expressed interest in Malone joining their line up. “I think he’ll land somewhere,” said the agent. “It’s just a matter of where and when.”

Malone’s career covers close to 650 NHL games and 370 points. He was a member of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team that won the silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.
