Tampa Bay Buccaneers Vincent Jackson Shows Creative Side

Vincent Jackson, NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, has tapped into a hidden talent – storytelling.  The son of military parents, Jackson believes he has first hand knowledge about the unique problems faced by children who have to move every few years.  As such, he penned a book  entitled Donny Dogtags: Dealing with Deployment, together with his schoolteacher wife, Lindsay which he hopes will help children dealing with these issues.

Currently running his Youth in Action camp, Jackson launched the book and spoke about its role: “It’s about being good citizens,” he said. “Not talking the ‘woe is me’ approach to it. Being sad is OK. It’s OK being open with your emotions, but how can you turn that into positives.”

He admitted being nervous about reading aloud from the book in front of the 80 kids chosen to attend the launch.

“The football stuff comes natural,” he said. “Lindsey is a pro at it, but the more in more I get in front of those kids, they make it easy.”

Speaking about working with her famous footballer husband, Lindsay Jackson said: “We sat down, we wrote it together. We edited together. We sent it to the publishers together. We went to the meetings with the Bucs together. So it’s been a true labor of love. Our name isn’t just stamped on it. It’s really our book from our heart.”

Vincent Jackson was the first Tampa Bay Buccaneer to appear on the NFL Top 100 list of 2014, making the #44 spot. During his two seasons with the Bucs, Jackson has produced over 2,600 yards and 15 touchdowns and he has been more productive than any of his seasons before coming to Tampa.
